Proposed for March 28 – April 3, 2027

Ride Your Way Challenge (Bike Rally)

A seven-day, ride-anywhere pledge fundraiser for youth programs in Community HousingWorks communities, starting with Paradise Creek.

Where this stands

Proposed for 28 March to 3 April 2027 — proposed, not confirmed. The plan's own first step is to confirm the leads, the beneficiary purpose and the insurance suitability, and insurance is not priced. If those are settled, riders choose any day in that window and any safe route they like.

About this project

Ride Your Way Challenge (Bike Rally)

Riders choose their own course across San Diego County

Lead: To be assigned

Ride Your Way is a fundraiser with no start line. Across seven days, riders pick the day that suits them and the route they already like — 5 to 25 miles, anywhere safe in San Diego County — and collect pledges for doing it. There is no mass start, no closed road and no minimum pace.

The money raised goes to youth programs in Community HousingWorks communities, starting with Paradise Creek. The goal is $2,500 collected, which is about $2,000 net after the proposed $500 operating allowance. That means fifty riders finishing and averaging $50 each, so the recruitment target is about sixty.

Mileage is verified through Strava, and donations run through Zeffy, which charges CCE nothing. Riders, miles, pledges, collections and the youth activities the money supported are all reported publicly, because a fundraiser that cannot show its numbers does not get run twice.

The dates are proposed. Before anything opens, the plan requires the leads, the beneficiary purpose and the insurance suitability to be confirmed — and insurance is not yet priced.

What is needed

What this project needs

  • An event lead and a finance lead

The event lead handles partners, rules and rider communication (about 25 hours). The finance lead sets up and reconciles the donations (about 20 hours). Neither is assigned yet.

  • Insurance suitability confirmed

Not priced in the plan, and the plan requires it settled before registration opens.

  • Riders — about 60 to reach 50 finishers

Ride 5–25 miles on one chosen day and gather sponsors. Fifty completing riders averaging $50 is the target.

  • Outreach coordinator — 1 needed

Club and rider follow-up. About 15 hours.

  • Registration and mileage reviewer — 2 needed

Check registrations and verify Strava mileage. About 15 hours each.

  • 10–25 cycling clubs to invite

Clubs across San Diego County who can put the challenge in front of riders.
