Projects

What CCE is building, and where each one stands.

7 projects are on the table — 1 underway and 6 being planned. Each page says which, in plain words, and tells you how to put your name down.

Our projects

  • Planning — no site designated yet

    Acorns to Oaks Initiative

Plant and establish 610 native California oaks across 21 acres of partner land, and care for them for three years.

Planning — revised operational plan (October 2026). The target is 21 cumulative acres, and 8–12 sites is the initial outreach target, but no site has been designated and no planting date is set. Written permission, establishment water and a named steward are required for each site before any tree goes in the ground.

  • Children and an adult volunteer working together in a community garden plot.

    Active — compost crew enrolled

Sweetwater Community Garden Compost and Kids Garden

Voluntary compost and unused-lot care at Sweetwater Community Garden, exchanged for the lots that let us grow a parent-participation Kids Garden.

Active — compost crew enrolled, and the first Kids Garden pilot session has been held with five children. The work is running on the garden's agreed schedule. Expansion to a second plot happens only after a review of the first six sessions, and no fixed public schedule is published here yet.

  • Bright green kale growing in a community garden bed.

    Planning — lease in progress

    CCE Community Garden (One Acre)

Lease and clear a neglected one-acre parcel by hand, protect its native plants, and grow food to share with the community and a nearby food bank.

Planning — the lease with the landowner is in progress and the parcel has not been selected. There is a hold point in the plan, and it is a real one: no volunteer clearing happens until the lease is signed, utilities are marked, protection zones are flagged, hazards are screened and the soil plan is approved.

  • Planning — awaiting authorization

    Paradise Creek Youth Art Project

Restore four weathered metal spheres at Paradise Creek and turn them into outdoor canvases for up to 18 young artists.

Planning — awaiting authorization from the park owner and a condition assessment of the four spheres. No dates are stated in the plan, and nothing is painted until the surfaces have been tested and the ground and drainage protected. The $2,250 fundraising figure is preliminary.

  • Planning — date and venue to confirm

    Voices and Rhythm

A three-hour, pay-what-you-can evening of spoken word and percussion, with five storytellers and two forty-minute acts.

Planning — the date, the venue and the performers all have to be confirmed, so no event date is published here. The shape of the evening is settled: three hours, five storytellers, two forty-minute acts, and pay-what-you-can so nobody is turned away. The $1,500 operating target is not yet secured.

  • Planning — venue not confirmed

Paradise Creek Seniors Garden and Healthy Cooking

    A twelve-week, land-free pilot for 12–18 seniors, alternating container-gardening workshops with healthy-cooking demonstrations.

Planning — the accessible venue and the Berry Good Food Foundation partnership are both still to be confirmed, so no start date is published. The pilot is twelve weeks and needs no land: everything is grown in containers. The cash budget is not assigned because the venue terms and the partner contribution are not established.

  • Proposed for March 28 – April 3, 2027

Ride Your Way Challenge (Bike Rally)

A seven-day, ride-anywhere pledge fundraiser for youth programs in Community HousingWorks communities, starting with Paradise Creek.

Proposed for 28 March to 3 April 2027 — proposed, not confirmed. The plan's own first step is to confirm the leads, the beneficiary purpose and the insurance suitability, and insurance is not priced. If those are settled, riders choose any day in that window and any safe route they like.

How the work is tracked

Every project, task and owner lives in CCE's own board area, so board members can see what is happening, what is next, and where help is needed.
